Junior Accounting Specialist to support mortgage accounting operations at its Golden Valley, MN location. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in accounting within the banking and financial services industry.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. While this role supports mortgage-related accounting functions, previous mortgage industry experience is not required.
Job Description The Junior Accounting Specialist provides accounting and administrative support to the Accounting Department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and transactions. This position plays a key role in mortgage accounting operations, accounts payable support, cash reconciliations, and wire transaction coordination.
Key Responsibilities: - Perform borrower mortgage account audits and identify discrepancies for resolution.
- Reconcile general ledger and cash accounts on a daily and monthly basis.
- Prepare, record, and reconcile daily deposits across multiple accounting systems.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Process and balance merchant credit card payments.
- Support accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, coding verification, and payment preparation.
- Assist with daily mortgage loan wire transactions, including verification, processing, and reconciliation.
- Verify financial data related to mortgage loan purchases and sales.
- Support month-end accounting activities and special projects as needed.
- Deliver professional service while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Qualifications Required - Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0-2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or administrative experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with financial data.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive, professional, and customer-focused approach.
- Ability to learn new accounting systems and software quickly.
- Comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification when needed.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
Preferred - Previous exposure to accounting, banking, financial services, or mortgage operations.
- Experience with accounts payable processing or account reconciliations.
- Familiarity with general ledger accounting concepts.
- Experience working with financial or accounting software.
- Strong aptitude for problem-solving and process improvement.
